10 Fascinating Facts About the Panda Copper Pillow
Throughout history, copper has been coveted nearly as much as gold and silver. That’s because, like other precious metals, copper is rare and incredibly useful.
Recently, pillow manufacturers have started including copper in their pillows and pillowcases. Is there anything to this trend? To find out, I tried the Panda Copper Pillow.
I can say for a fact that the copper-infused memory foam inside this pillow delivers a night of sleep unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. As Panda’s blog writer, allow me to inform you of the top 10 most important facts regarding the Panda Copper Pillow.
1. Copper is one of the most conductive metals
Next to silver, copper is the most conductive metal in the world. That’s why copper is still preferred in applications like computer components and electrical wiring.
Metals that conduct electricity also conduct heat. The idea behind copper pillows is that they pull heat away from your head and neck while you sleep.
I can say from personal experience that copper pillows do indeed have surprising cooling properties. Unsure of what to expect, I found that the Panda Copper Pillow definitely kept my head at least a few degrees cooler than usual.
2. Copper pillows have been researched for their usefulness
The benefits of copper pillows aren’t just backed by claims that brands make. Scientific research has been conducted to determine if sleeping with copper under your head has any legitimate health benefits.
In 2012, for instance, a study was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology regarding the anti-aging benefits of sleeping on a copper-infused pillowcase. This study found that sleeping on copper reduced wrinkles.
3. The Panda Copper Pillow’s cover is OEKO-TEX® certified and extremely soft
The Panda Copper Pillow is equipped with one of the most luxurious covers I’ve ever seen. It has an ultra-soft, silky embroidered surface, and a line of copper thread runs along the cover’s edge to let you know which type of pillow is inside.
Certified by OEKO-TEX®, the Panda Copper Pillow’s cover is guaranteed to be sustainable and eco-friendly. I would personally feel comfortable sleeping with my face directly against the cover with no pillowcase.
This wouldn’t be the most hygienic way of sleeping on the Panda Copper Pillow, but it would be easy to clean up after. The Panda Copper Pillow’s zippered cover is fully removable for easy washing.
4. There’s an inner lining of the Panda Copper Pillow
Unpacking the Panda Copper Pillow, I was surprised to find that the pillow has an inner lining under its outer cover. This lining appears to be made from very lightweight, gauzy cotton, and it provides another layer of softness and comfort.
I imagine this lining also helps keep the pillow clean. I’ve never seen this thoughtful touch on a memory foam pillow before.
5. The Panda Copper Pillow is super-thick and well-ventilated
I was immediately impressed by the thickness of my Panda Copper Pillow. I’m the type of person who likes to sleep on a relatively thick pillow, and I relished the feeling of my head and neck falling fully into my Panda Copper Pillow’s adaptable support.
The Panda Copper pillow is permeated by more ventilation holes than I’m used to seeing in memory foam pillows. This enhanced ventilation no doubt synergizes with the conductive properties of copper to deliver exponentially greater cooling benefits.
6. The Panda Copper Pillow is comfortable and cooling
The Panda Copper Pillow is one of the most comfortable pillows I’ve ever slept on. From its luxuriously soft cover to its slightly springy texture, this innovative pillow feels great under my head and neck.
It must be the copper in the memory foam that makes my pillow a little bit firmer and faster to return to its original shape. I feel like my head is well-supported.
The Panda Copper Pillow has an immediately noticeable cooling effect that can be slightly disconcerting at first. At no point did my head feel uncomfortably cold, but it did feel slightly refrigerated, as if its heat was being steadily sapped away.
7. There isn’t any considerable aroma to the Panda Copper Pillow
Some of Panda’s pillows, such as their Lavender Pillow, are infused with natural substances that change their aroma. Likewise, the memory foam in the Panda Copper Pillow isn’t just plain foam, but I didn’t find that my pillow’s copper infusion changed its aroma substantially.
8. The Panda Copper Pillow will kill bacteria while you sleep
Science has firmly established that copper has antimicrobial properties. This consensus has been reached over centuries, and copper implements are still commonly used in hospitals.
The copper in the Panda Copper Pillow works the same way. Dust mites are microorganisms that love normal pillows, but they’ll have a harder time surviving in copper-infused memory foam.
Due to its precious metal content, the Panda Copper Pillow naturally keeps itself clean, extending its usable life. It does all this while simultaneously keeping you cool throughout the night — no easy feat.
9. The Panda Copper Pillow is recommended to overheated sleepers in search of a new main pillow
Getting overheated is something that can happen to us all. It’s natural to be too hot while sleeping at the height of summer, but some people continue overheating at night all through the year.
The Panda Copper Pillow takes some of the pressure off your overworked body by regulating your sleeping temperature. It makes your entire head feel supported yet cool, which is a sensation I thoroughly enjoyed even during the middle of winter.
Due to its natural antimicrobial properties, the Panda Copper Pillow is even more ideal for people who are prone to overheating at night. No one likes to admit it, but sweat is filled with the type of bacteria that copper loves to neutralize.
Some specialty pillows have attributes that make them less comfortable than your normal pillow. I found the Panda Copper Pillow, however, to be just as large and supportive as the pillow I usually use.
In fact, the cover on the Panda Copper Pillow is nicer than the cover on my usual pillow. While I ultimately like the Panda Hybrid Pillow as a mainstay, I find myself periodically switching it out for the Panda Copper.
10. The Panda Copper Pillow gets an overall score of 4.96 out of 5
Altogether, I give the Panda Copper Pillow a highly favorable score of 4.96 out of 5. This pillow is, overall, very comfortable and obviously high-quality.
I found the thickness of the Panda Copper Pillow to be just right. From what I’ve heard, sleeping on a thinner pillow might be beneficial, but I can’t help wanting something a little bit more substantive under my neck.
From my experience, the benefits of copper pillows are more than just hype. My pillow seemed to have a genuinely cooling effect, and its consistency was definitely different from any other type of memory foam I’ve tried.
Washing the cover of my Panda Copper Pillow was easy, and putting it back on the pillow was no trouble either. The Panda Copper Pillow feels great to hold in your arms if another pillow sometimes takes the prime real estate under your neck.
